King for Brian
By Gary Crispe of Racing and Sports 14/07/02

Leading Flemington trainer Brian Mayfield-Smith was all smiles after the Ballarat barrier trials on Friday where some of his stable stars Prince Rubiton, Rubitano and Innovation Girl all impressed with strong wins in their respective trials. This afternoon he will focus his attention on another lightly raced up-and-comer in Steel King who will contest the Three Years old Handicap over 1200m 2.06pm.

The son of Snippets resumes from a spell but last preparation he impressed in two very good runs, winning first up at Sandown over 1000m in fast time and then going to Moonee Valley over 1200m and running a handy third to class filly Ugachaka.

Steel King has been “set” for a first up win with two impressive barrier trials at Cranbourne and should acquit himself very well in this line up.
